JOB TITLE: LANDSCAPE FOREMAN

DEPARTMENT: 1300

WORK SITE: Varies

JOB STATUS: Full Time and Hourly

POSITION REPORTS TO: Landscape Program Manager

SCHEDULE: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm half hour lunch, Monday to Friday, overtime must be pre-approved by the Executive Director.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties. The following are the necessary duties to be performed:

 

  • Receives direct supervision from the Landscape Program Manager.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to landscape crews on maintenance tasks, ensuring accurate documentation of Consumer work progress, as well as leading safety meetings and evacuation drills.
  • Provides safety training to landscape crews and enforcement of job site safety rules. Provides training on Heat Illness Prevention ensuring compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Visits worksites to ensure staff and Consumers have the necessary equipment, understand the tasks, and receive guidance on completing contract work effectively and on schedule.
  • Reviews contract details to ensure a clear understanding of requirements and develops strategies for the crews to complete the job on time and within budget.
  • Collects, verifies, and submits all documents to the corporate office by the assigned deadline.
  • Maintains and repairs landscape tools and equipment or submits purchase orders to Accounting with a minimum of two quotes for repairs. Looks for the most cost-effective repair shops.
  • Trains staff to inspect landscape vehicles designated for transporting Consumers and supports them in properly documenting vehicle inspections. Submits vehicle repair requests to the ACI Mechanic in a timely manner. Ensures that all vehicles are stocked with first aid kits, water jugs, and registration and insurance cards.
  • Participates in meetings with management and landscape contractors, offering input for the improvement of contract work and bidding.
  • Responds to issues and concerns raised by staff, Consumers, and landscape contractors in a timely manner.
  • Supervises and motivates a group of individuals with developmental disabilities assigned, and occasionally serves as a substitute landscape job coach.
  • Keeps open lines of communication with other Program Managers, Supervisors, Landscape Crews, other Staff and third parties contractors.
  • Accurately document information needed for billing purposes.
  • Safely operate and drive a vehicle up to nine (9) passengers; safely tow a 16 foot trailer fully loaded with large area moving equipment.
  • Be able to perform these tasks: 
  • Mowing and blowing, edging and fertilizing lawns
  • Weeding and mulching landscape beds
  • Trimming small trees, hedges and shrubs
  • Removing unwanted, dead or damaged trees
  • Planting shrubs, flowers and trees
  • Irrigation lawns and landscapes
  • Monitoring and maintaining plant health
  • Must be able to meet the attendance requirements of the position, and be punctual.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

 

  • Performs other duties as required.
  • May perform work in other classifications at the same or lower level.
  • May be required to assist in vehicle repairs, moving company equipment to another location as needed. 
  • Works independently and as a team.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

 

The ideal candidate will possess an Associate Degree in Horticulture or Landscape Architecture, or an equivalent amount of experience, preferably two years in the field. Additionally, a minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in related human services fields is required. The candidate should demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills and be physically capable of performing manual labor. Proficiency in reading, writing, and math, as well as familiarity with office computer software, is essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also necessary. A valid California driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the insurance company is required, along with a current CPR and First Aid certification.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common, technical documents and safety rules; operating and maintenance instructions; financial reports; legal documents; ability to respond to inquiries and complaints from staff, customers, and other stakeholders; represent the company in a professional manner to top management, public and the board of directors; speak effectively before groups. Knowledge of risk management to include workers’ compensation, safety rules and regulations, OSHA compliance. Skilled in problem solving matters that may arise and create solutions; basic mathematical skills and operations.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands of this job include the use of arms, hands, and fingers; standing and walking; bending over and lifting; twisting; squatting; carrying; reaching forward and above your head; moving or pushing; and lifting/pushing up to 50 pounds. Vision demands include close clarity and focus, distance, peripheral, and depth perception. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.Hearing demands include the ability to focus in the presence of distracting sounds, and to listen for and identify changes to factory or machinery sounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment for a Landscape Foreman can vary significantly depending on the season, project type, and location. Typically, Landscape Foremen spend most of their time outdoors, overseeing crews and managing projects in various conditions. They are exposed to a range of elements, including chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, and seasonal climate changes. During the summer, they may work in extreme heat, requiring proper hydration and heat illness prevention measures, while in winter, they face colder temperatures and may need appropriate clothing and gear to ensure comfort and safety. Worksites may include residential properties, commercial landscapes, parks, and other outdoor spaces, often requiring the Foreman to adapt to different environments and challenges. 

COMPENSATION: $20.00-$25.00/HR

The above range is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
